Gonzalez: 50th Anniversary commissioned work 8'
Gershwin: Concerto in F 31'
Brahms: Haydn Variations 17'
Hindemith: Symphonic Metamorphoses 20'
We open with the world premiere of a work by Luis González commissioned to celebrate the BPO's 50th anniversary. Then we explore how music itself can inspire music. Marcus Roberts, perhaps the pre-eminent jazz pianist on the scence today, and his trio have re-imagined Gershwin's Concerto in F in a way that will leave you breathless. Brahms and Hindemith used the music of their forebears as points of departure for their own brilliant orchestral showpieces. |
