About Halau Na 'Olapa Mamao E Malama Hula
Halau Na 'Olapa Mamao E Malama Hula was established in Boulder in 2008. The halau (hula school) perpetuates traditional Hawaiian culture, language, chants and dances, as well as other Polynesian dance forms. Kumu (instructor) La'ela'e Sundberg and her daughter Kealoha descend from the prestigious line of hula handed down through Hula Master Kekau'ilani Kalama of Kailua, O'ahu. In August 1997, La'ela'e graduated in a traditional 'Uniki ceremony. The halau offers dance and language classes to women, men and children in Boulder, as well as throughout the State of Colorado.
