Volunteer

The Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra currently has several ongoing volunteer opportunities available, with training provided:

Office Management

Office Helpers: Volunteers help with filing, database clean up and answering phone calls. The time commitment is flexible.

Mailing Parties: Several afternoons each year, a fun and sociable group gets together to assemble fundraising or subscriber mailings. Time commitment varies depending on the number of volunteers.

Audience Relations

Patron Development:  Help promote Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra concerts and events through phone calls, flyers, online social networking sites, group promotions, and other forms of marketing. The time requirements are very flexible. Volunteers need to be personable and/or have computer skills, depending on the project.

Party People:  Volunteers set up and serve food and drinks to patrons during receptions to express the Phil's appreciation to subscribers and donors. This opportunity, including set up time, takes about an hour. Volunteers need to have good customer service skills.

Will Call:  Volunteers distribute pre-purchased tickets to patrons prior to concerts. This is a vital part of the Boulder Phil's efforts to make our patrons' entire experience the best it can be. Volunteers will need to devote an hour and a half to this opportunity prior to the concert start time, have good customer service skills, and work cheerfully under pressure.

Welcome Table:   Volunteers act as liaisons for the Boulder Phil and provide information on concerts, subscriptions, and other opportunities. The time commitment is an hour and a half before the concert and the 20 minutes during intermission.

Summer Festivals:  Volunteers set up and manage information tables to raise awareness about the Boulder Phil. Time commitment is usually two hours. Volunteers may be asked to pick up or return supplies to the office.

Education

Young Artists Concerto Competition:  Every winter, volunteers greet contestants for the Young Artists Concerto Competition, check them in and show them to the practice rooms. Depending on the number of contestants, the time commitment for this opportunity is up to seven hours.

Discovery Concert Hosts:  At our Discovery Concerts for 4th and 5th graders, volunteers serve as greeters to meet school busses in front of the venue, escort groups to their assigned seating areas, and assist with other logistics as needed.

Fundraising Events

The Boulder Phil Fanfare each September serves to raise awareness about the orchestra and to raise funds to support the upcoming season. This is a major undertaking with many opportunities to get involved:

Auction Item Solicitation:  Months before the event, volunteers go out into the community and ask local businesses to donate auction items. Volunteers have them fill out a donation form and arrange to pick up the item or have it sent to the Boulder Phil office. Time commitment is flexible.

Program Authors:  Volunteers write creative and enticing descriptions of all auction items, as well as find logos for all of the businesses that donate. Volunteers need to have some computer experience and good writing skills. The time commitment is flexible.

Bidder Packet Coordinators:  Volunteers place bidder numbers, programs and nametags into envelopes, then label and alphabetize them. This preparation will ensure a smoother event for both patrons and staff. Time commitment depends on how many volunteers participate.

Decoration Planners:  Volunteers set up tables and decorations. Heavy lifting is sometimes required. This opportunity usually takes about three hours.

Greeters/Check In:  Volunteers greet guests, answer questions, and retrieve guests’ bidder packets. This opportunity takes about two hours.

Check Out/Clean Up:  Volunteers retrieve any auction items that guests have won. Volunteers pack up computers, decorations and/or left over auction items after the gala is over. The time commitment for this opportunity is two and one half hours.

Thank You Letters:  Volunteers will organize guests’ thank you letters with their receipts, stuff envelopes and attach address labels on envelopes. Time commitment ranges from two to five hours, depending on how many volunteers participate.

We like to reward our volunteers with complimentary tickets as a thank you for all your time and efforts. For more information about volunteer opportunities, please contact Shelley Sampson at ssampson@boulderphil.org or at 303-449-1343 x 2.
