Jeff Rubin has served as the second horn with the Boulder Philharmonic since 2005. In addition to performing with the orchestra, he teaches 6th through 8th grade band at Southern Hills Middle School, as well as beginning band at several elementary schools in South Boulder. Since starting his career as an educator in Boulder, Jeff has worked with thousands of students ranging from grades five through twelve. While teaching in Boulder, Jeff spent sixteen years serving as the wind conductor for the Denver Young Artists Conservatory orchestra. During this time, he helped prepare students to perform a variety of major orchestral works, including Beethoven’s 5th symphony, and Dvorak’s 8th symphony. Jeff holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance and Education from Ithaca College, where he studied with Alex Shuhan, and a Master’s degree in Music Performance from the University of Colorado, where he studied with David Pinkow. While working on his degree at CU, Jeff joined the Cheyenne Symphony as 4th horn, a position he held for ten years. Outside of music, Jeff enjoys hiking and biking in the scenic foothills of Boulder, where he enjoys the endless trails that the area has to offer. His favorite hiking destinations include Greenland, Peru, and Switzerland.
