Kina Ono is a classically trained violinist and music educator based in Denver, Colorado. Kina currently performs with the Madison Symphony, Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, and Boulder Chamber Orchestra, and formerly was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She has also performed with many other orchestras in her home state of Minnesota, as well as in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Also an enthusiastic chamber musician, Kina has played chamber recitals in Colorado and Minnesota, and her recital in Chicago with the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series was broadcast on WFMT radio. Passionate about bringing live music to her local community, Kina organized chamber concerts in Minnesota, was a core player and graphic designer for the Jetoj Concert Series based in Chicago and Minneapolis, and organized free outdoor concerts around Boulder during the Covid 19 pandemic. Kina has performed concertos with the Longmont and Kenwood Symphonies, and during her studies at the University of Colorado, she was selected for two consecutive years to participate in the Honors Chamber Program. As part of this program, she had the opportunity to perform alongside members of the Takács Quartet. An eclectic and curious musician, Kina loves to explore other genres of music including pop, tango and bluegrass. She has performed at major venues around Minnesota and Illinois alongside artists such as Michael Buble and 2Cellos. Kina earned her Master of Music degree at the University of Colorado, under the tutelage of Charles Wetherbee, Karoly Schranz, and Claude Sim, and earned her Bachelor of Music from the University of Minnesota, where she studied under renowned pedagogue Sally O’Reilly.
